Once you have your CAC reader, plug it into your Mac and ensure your computer recognizes it. If you have one of the CAC readers we suggested above, then you should be good to go. If for some reason your CAC reader isn’t working, you may need to download the appropriate drivers for your CAC reader.
I am trying to use my cac card (smart card) on my MacBook (late 2008, intel) but the card is not showing up in keychain since I upgraded to Yosemite. I've already downloaded the required certificates and middleware and have been able to access the card with no issues prior to the update. Keychain shows SystemCACertificates with all the certificates, and keychain firstaid came back with no issues. When I look in System information the usb section shows my CAC reader as SCR33xx v2.0 USB SC Reader (SCM SCR3310 v2) so I know that it isn't a hardware issue. When I insert my card into the reader the light turns on but after a couple seconds the light goes out and nothing ever comes up in keychain. Any ideas of how I can fix this?

Is your Mac up to date with the latest version of the Mac operating system (macOS or OS X)? Is it using the version required by some product or feature? Which versions are earlier (older) or later (newer, more recent) than the version currently installed? To find out, learn which version is installed now.
If your macOS isn't up to date, you may be able to update to a later version.
Which macOS version is installed?
From the Apple menu in the corner of your screen, choose About This Mac. You'll see the macOS name, such as macOS Mojave, followed by its version number. If some product or feature requires you to know the build number as well, click the version number to see it.
This example shows macOS Catalina version 10.15 build 19A583.
To fix the date, type in the current date/time in the following format: “date mmddHHMMyyyy”. (mm = two digit month, dd = two digit day, HH = 24 hour, MM = minute, yyyy = 4 digit year) So if it is currently 10:46am, June 19, 2015 the command would look like: “date 15”. Onyx for mac el capitan. This will give you the computer’s current time and date.
